Film Review - Ip Man –

By Matthew, Ho Ngai Hang, 10553753

Martial art is a blooming wonderful work on the land of China. That is an art of Chinese people just like calligraphy. There is always a different era that martial arts enthusiasts inherit and carry forward. So it spreads from China to the whole world.

Now I would like to express my feeling about when I finished watching "Ip Man". In my point of view, Ip Man is not only a character who was amazing about his martial arts. He was still a calm young man with strong sense of responsibility. Such a man was a good husband. However, he did not recognize his own arena, perhaps he has not sensed that the Chinese martial arts not only a physical fitness sports.

Ip Man loved martial arts so much. When he had time, he would try to practice every day. Although he had talent and treated people in fair manner and he was mindful that he would not be proud and insolent because of his talent. This was so valuable.

Although Ip Man did not open an accommodation for enrolling and recruiting apprentice but he was well-known for the area. Ip Man as character in the film was a caring and emotional person. He was deserved the people's love because of his personality.

During the Japanese invasion, Ip Man was homeless and penniless. However, he did not give up his love of life in such a difficult environment. In order to support his family, he decided to go out for work not about martial art. Finally he has found a job as a coolie. He has kept the sweet potato to his wife and a children, a sweet potato was a day of ration. He ate nothing.

After his friend, Wu Chi Lin, died in front of him because of brutal abuse by the Japanese soldier, he finally challenged the Japanese soldiers' head. He was filled with resentment from the Japs' bad behavior which had come from his love of his country. He challenged the Japanese devils alone. He did not disappoint the people of China. He has won because he was a master of martial arts. He was full of justice and he was a Chinese. When the Japanese asked his name, he did not hesitate to say, "I was just a Chinese man!" Suddenly, the people around him were very proud to have such an outstanding personality of Ip Man.

Wing Tsun had both hard and soft as a martial art. In order to reach this realm, the men who practice Wing Tsun need not only a solid foundation, but also need to calm his state of mind. The man will need time for practice the skills of Wing Tsun. Wing Tsun is quite unique and which add luster to the Chinese martial arts.

Today, the development of Chinese martial arts has been further strengthened. It is not only physical fitness sports, but also a good way of entertainment. It is good to have more people joining the martial arts, maybe not Wing Tsun but also the other Chinese martial art, Kung Fu, in order to flourish and promote the Chinese martial art.
