Popular Hong Kong Style Movie
To explain the success of Due West: Our Sex Journey, the genre of the movie should be mentioned. Due West: Our Sex Journey talked about a guy became a client and visited a prostitute. It is a not a new topic in movies. However, the movie was filmed in special style. It is not an adult movie that showed off porn only. It is not feature film that described the change of the heart of the main character. It is a Hong Kong style adult comedy. It seems to be similar to the traditional Hong Kong adult comedy such as Lucky Seven (1970), Sex and Zen (1991) and Sex and Zen II (1996). Due West: Our Sex Journey had the elements of the traditional Hong Kong style comedy such as local vulgar foul languages, satire of current events and traditional Chinese literature and art. Also, the story was come from the popular Hong Kong Forum, Hong Kong Golden Forum. Under the environment of Co-productions of Hong Kong and China, most of the movie industry involved too many parts to talk about China. Due West: Our Sex Journey can still showed that the respect of local culture. It presented the real Hong Kong style while using the Hong Kong story. With combining the Hong Kong style, comedy and adult movie, Due West: Our Sex Journey drew a great attention while its releasing period.

The lost Identity

In Due West: Our Sex Journey, the reflection on Hong Kong identity was shown. In the movie, the main character was separated with his girl friend. It is the metaphor of the decolonization of Hong Kong. It seemed to have a hopeful new identity at that time. Then, the main character could not find a new girl friend and visited prostitute in China following his friend. It is the phenomenon of Hong Kong people worked in China after 1997. It seems to give a new identity to Hong Kong people. However, no people knew what identity they might achieved in China. At the end of the movie, the main character was lost and thinking in the way back to Hong Kong in train. This shot showed the worry of identity of Hong Kong people. In our real lives, Hong Kong cannot be a real democracy place for Hong Kong people. Also, Hong Kong cannot merge to the Mainland China. These made Hong Kong became the grey area that between black and white. Hong Kong people are still in obsession with their lost identity after 15 years reunification.
