In this year, there are many local
Hong Kong movies broadcast in the local cinema. The ticket office records of
these local movies were high and it was showing that many local audiences were
attracted by those local Hong Kong movies. In January this year, “Golden
Chicken SSS” was broadcasted in Hong Kong cinema. After the first week, the
ticket office record was over 10 millions. In the following, I will conduct a
review about “Golden Chicken SSS”.
In the past decade, there were many
Hong Kong movie producers cooperated with the mainland movie producers to
produce some movies to broadcast in both Hong Kong and Mainland. The ticket
office records of these cooperated movies were very good and the comments were
quite well. Thus, the local movies became narrowcasting in local cinema and the
comments of them were not very well. The audiences tend to see the local movies
through the Internet rather than in cinema.
“Golden Chicken SSS” was one of the
significant that showing the passion of Hong Kong peoples that they love and
support the local Hong Kong movies. In these few years, there were many
controversial issues between China and Hong Kong. The local Hong Kong people
identity was blurred and we are not really sure about our identity. Hong Kong
cinemas can give us a platform to seek our identity. “Golden Chicken SSS” seems
like was an exaggerated comedy with some adult contents, but in fact, the
message behind the movie was strengthen the identity of Hongkongese.
The cultural phenomenon of Hong Kong
is changing rapidly; this movie broadcast at this time was reminding us that we
should protect our local Hong Kong core value. This movie brought us the
positive feelings of Hong Kong core values to face these controversial issues.
The character of Cheung Ka-fai was representing how the Hong Kong society was
and he cannot accommodate to the recent Hong Kong society. Also, Cheung Ka-fai has
not been a local comedy actor for a long time. This movie brought us the past
memory of local Hong Kong comedy.
The message and the meaning behind
the scene were telling us that how we should do to face the problem. One scene
that two sides’ protesters are having argues, Cheung Ka-fai as an underground
leader confuse about what he is doing. This scene is representing the recent phenomenon
of Hong Kong’s society. And also parody the news that some underground members
went to protest to support the government.
“Golden Chicken SSS” as a comedy but
to parody the phenomenon of the society. It brought us to think more about
Hongkongese identity and Hong Kong’s values. While the society was full of
negative feeling and desperation, this movie gave us a new idea and a positive
way to strengthen our local identity. We should protect our value and our place
to construct the identity of Hong Kong.
